Day six: 80 miles
Well this morning it is all just rain, rain and more rain. It was lovely and dry in my rain despite constant rain for hours. My neighbours were annoying and noisy. They got back at 00.30 am and continued to talk loudly and generally make a nuisance of themselves till 3 am so I had very little sleep. I got up at 7 am as I decided that I want to move on ASAP hoping to find sun somewhere soon. I got to Newquay where it was still raining. I stopped for a change of clothes, breakfast and device charging. While I am waiting and warming up I decided to put down part of today's blog already - nothing like getting ahead of the game. I shall now plan my trip eastwards and set off hoping to find some sun again.
My next stop: Padstow. The ride to Padstow was rather damp and grey. When I reached Padstow the heavens opened. It almost made me want to leave but gladly I didn't and the sun came out. I had a wander around. I went into the Driftwood gallery, there were so many beautiful works of art. I particularly liked Margaret Johnson's glass and Rozanne Bell's mixed media paintings. And of course Doug Hyde's paintings and porcelain sculptures. I was surprised to find a number of Rolf Harris' paintings there too. I then had lunch at Rick Stein's cafe. It was delicious. I had some cod which had a lively kick to it. The food was beautifully seasoned. They needn't have salt and pepper on the tables. After that I popped into his shop (jewellery and home decor).
I then set off further East. On the way Widemouth Bay caught my eye, stunning place. And then ended up in Bude. I tried to sort out a B&B as I didn't fancy pitching my tent having got so wet today. Got it all confirmed in a place called Holsworthy, 10 miles inland. When I got there I had a missed call. The B&B had called to inform me there was a computer glitch and they were full. So that was a wasted journey and it was getting late now. So I headed back to Bude where the weather was better. I then went to a campsite I had seen earlier and went to pitch up. As I had put up the outer sheet the heavens opened. So I took refuge under it and eventually when the rain died down I finished pitching and then went to the laundry room to wash and more importantly dry all my clothes again whilst I read my book. Once done time for bed.
