Hi everyone, sorry for the long delay since last writing.
The teaching is still hard but I'm hoping it may click soon. It didn't help that this week I was asked to teach the kids about the Antarctic......I thought someone was taking the piss, but apparently not. How useful this will be in years to come I'm not so sure. Next week I'm going to be pretty much teaching solo and I'm picking the subjects, so I'll let you know how it goes. Watched some of the kids picking lice out of each others hair as well, which makes it difficult when they want to come up and give you a cuddle.
The classes generally are quite chaotic and if you ask a question they all try and make their voices heard over everyone else. They've not quite got the hang of putting their hands up yet and it's a shame for the less able kids who don't stand a chance. I'll persevere with the hand up thing, but who knows. The class is also too big to go round and ask one by one as at any one time there will be over 30 kids creating havoc whilst the one is getting attention. Maybe I'll just get the cane out!!!! (Joking)
Yesterday 4 of us went quad biking, which sounds very non Cambodian, but was actually a really good way to get out into the sticks to see the small villages and rice paddies. Watching the sunset in the paddie fields was perfect, especially as there was a lovely cool breeze and it was the first time I've not been in my room without sweating.
This morning I had to have coffee as it had been a week since the last one, but could I find a tuk tuk driver.....could I bo**ocks. One of the other women came down and was riding her bike into town so I thought, why not? Well, I had my one death defying moment so it should all be good from now on. The trip is only 10 mins by bike but I was sweating from my knuckles and shins as well as the constant dripping tap from my nose and chin. I think I may have picked the hottest day yet for my virgin cycle ride as well. Still not sure about making it all the way to school, but I will endeavor to try this week (I'll probably still be saying that in week 12!)
Whilst wandering around today I came across KFC......can you believe it. Not happy about this, but the locals are very excited by it. Why can't it have been a Starbucks if they had to let a big chain open here?
I've had an upset stomach for a few days but I won't bother you with the details, however tonights dinner seems to be staying in for the long haul so hopefully back to normal.
S xx
