Captain Tom's Voyage of Discovery
Howdy!
Well I am now in Melbourne but I guess I better update you how my three day trip from Adelaide to here went.
The set up for the tour was pretty similar to my trip around Uluru: 24 travelers, one slightly crazy guide/driver and a frickin uncomfortable bus! After trying to get some sleep whilst nursing a goon induced hangover, we crossed the border into Victoria and had a toilet stop...THANK GOD! This was my first time to properly check out the rest of my group. It came clear that my traveling comrades for the next few days would be the three other English lads; one (also called Tom) had just finished a History degree in Cardiff which was an excellent ice-breaker. Now I have to admit that the female 'talent'on this trip was of a much higher standard than my previous tour. James: forget Sweden its ALL about Denmark.
Our first proper stop was at the Grampian mountain range. I was lucky that my hangover had gone, as we were about to climb a big b****** mountain. The mountain, I think, was called 'flat top' or something. Well let me tell you, there was nothing flat about that mountain! After the hike/climb/crawl to the top I got some more pictures of Oz scenery and then began the descent. Wooo no falling over this time! We then took in more of the sights in the Grampians and headed to our hostel for the night. But before that the most important event of any tour had to take place...the booze stop! There was something about an $8 bottle of "Oliver Cromwell' Port that I couldn't resist. Well after much drinking and a few games of cards, most of the group went to bed except us lads who, of course, had to watch the football. Well we only made it through half of Spain v Ukraine.
The next day kicked off with yet another climb in the Grampians. After some more time in the bus we made it to the highlight of the tour, the Great Ocean Road. After checking out famous stops like the bay of martyrs, London bridge etc we arrived for our sunset stop at the 12 Apostles. However it was pissing down with rain so after grabbing the mandatory picture we headed back to the bus and on to our hostel for the night...for England v T&T night! After having some crap chick flick imposed on us, the lads took over the TV! Well it was a long w8 as England were not kicking off until 2am! As the game progressed, it became pretty hard to hide our frustration from the rest of the (sleeping) group in the hostel. But when the goals went in, I think we managed to wake a fair few people up! Well at 4am, we headed off to bed...only to be woken up 2 hours later to head back to the 12 apostles. After another drive along the great Ocean road, we finally hit Melbourne!
