Captain Tom's Voyage of Discovery
Howdy guys!
Well I am trying to remember what I got up to in Adelaide...but not having much joy as it has been a fair few days since I left so I am sorry if this entry is a bit crap!
Well most of my evenings were taken up by the joy that is the World Cup! COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!! I decided to watch England's first game at the hostel as the atmosphere for the opening night had been pretty good. Well on this occasion, the atmosphere was about as good as England's performance....s***. The German's from the night before came and were supporting Paraguay. Any Australians that were there were supporting Paraguay....come on Brazil!!! The only England fans were myself, a group of Japanese backpackers who couldn't speak any English and a family from down south. However, the family departed at half time as the youngest daughter kept bloody crying!
So as the Australia v Japan game came along, I decided to repay the 'loyalty' that the Australian's had shown and cheer on the Japanese. It was all going so well. An English couple and I were taking great joy at what was looking like an inevitable Australian defeat when the lucky b******s went and got three goals in the last ten minutes! Well the next day, if you had woken up out of a coma, you would have thought Australia had won the cup. The Oz press have gone insane and I CANT W8'for Brazil to give them a lesson in football tonight...hopefully.
Well on my last day I decided to go and check out the sights of Adelaide. All my washing had been done and I had finished my first book so I had no excuse to lounge around in the hostel again. After getting my obligatory 'fix' of history at a museum I ventured to the beach town of Glenelg. To get there you had to take a retro wooden tram which had to be the complete opposite of Singapore's ultra-modern MRT. Glenelg was nice. Basically it is a cleaner, smaller version of Blackpool. After a stroll along the beach I decided to try out the local cuisine...fish + chips!! On route back to my hostel, I managed to walk past statues of Queen Victoria + Edward VI. After a swell of national pride, I got out my camera and took me some pictures!
Up until this point, primarily out of protest against drinking skanky wine from a box, I had managed to stay away from goon. But as it was both my roommates and my last night in Adelaide we decided it was the best way to pass the evening. Well I tell you...getting up at 5am to catch my tour bus to Melbourne was not easy!!
