Mud Slappy Slappy, swim in the sea and old friends!
Hello :)
What a day! I have just had a shower, I feel clean, fresh and have had a great day!
Last night I slept really well in our room but woke up to thunderstorms! Not quite what we had planned but we embraced the rain, put our waterproofs on and set off for our orientation walk around the local villages!
Ok.... So last night I wasn't in the mood for writing so I stopped and have just got back in bed to finish it off. Here goes...
After our walk we went back to camp for lunch and then got ready for project. We had to finish off the inside of a Mamas mud house which needed plastering, however, we had to plaster with mud! We dug some soil/sand up and mixed it with water, then we used trowels and slappy slappied it onto the walls. It was hard work in the sweltering heat but I really enjoyed doing it! I focused on the bit near the door and the windowsill. I was dripping with sweat, some of the local helpers were playing some amazing songs on their phones and it was a really good laugh :)
When we got back to camp it was time to go in the sea! On our expedition we have been up mountains in freezing temperatures, in the middle of nowhere with limited water and now we had the Indian Ocean lapping at our feet! It was great! We all put our sea shoes on and went down to the beach before tea! We played catch and just had a good laugh!
We then had tea, chilled and I had another very special moment!
In 2011 I did Camp Kenya and have mentioned previously that the Kenya staff are in Tanzania at the moment because of the political issues. Last night I was walking across the grass in camp and heard some people shouting 'Tom!' It was Sampuli and Gladys, two of the staff I spent along time with in Kenya! It really was amazing to see how happy they were to see me and I was delighted to see them! We had a good old catch up and reminisced about my month in Kenya! I told them all about the other guys from Kenya and filled them in on what I had been up to since then. Gladys in now pregnant with her first child and Sampuli is just as happy and smiley as I remember! It was great to see them and another one of those very special moments!
After that had a good old gossip with some of the staff and enjoyed a few Tusker beers :)
A great day was had by all :)
