Feeling Horrendous, Hospital and Hotels!
Hello!
Well that was terrible! What a day and night I have just had. I'm lay in a room at The Keys Hotel after a late night visit down the mountain to Moshi and a few hours in Hospital. After I finished writing my blog things got a lot worse. I went back to sleep for the afternoon and woke up feeling awful! Two of the girls had gone down hill too so I packed them off to hospital with the Camp Manager! This was a difficult decision to make but they needed to go. Then as it went dark I went worse and worse myself. I ended up throwing up and spending the whole time in the toilet. In the end I resigned myself and made the call to Yusra, team liaison. She sent her driver up for me and I made my way down Mt Kili back to Moshi. When I got there I paid my 20,000TSH to get in and saw the doctor, i'm talking a room with a desk of old, dusty paper work and used needles. I then went to the toilet again but the flush didn't even work! I hope you can picture the hospital now! Oh and the light was just a wire and a bulb! So anyway.... I then went into a room for a blood test, thankfully the sister opened the needle and everything in front of me so I was ok with this! Another 10,000TSH later I made my way to my bed. This was just like you see on Comic Relief but for real!
I lay down and went to sleep until the sister came and put me on a drip. Apparently I had a bacterial infection and the way to solve that is to drink bloody charcoal! Yes, the black stuff you get from fire!
I told the doctor I would Google this later, raised my eyebrows and downed it!
Anyway... A few hours later and 3 IV solutions later I was discharged. I had gone through endless bouts of shakes and throwing up and still felt rough but I wanted out of there!
Yusra, who was amazing throughout and just like a mum, took me to join the others at the hotel. I checked in and went to my room. To be honest I felt really bad but just wanted sleep. During the night I had 3 more visits to the loo but since then I feel good. Let's hope it stays that way!
I've just woken up, listened to the Armed Man (It's better than bloody cockerels) and it's starting to rain! I'm in no hurry to get back up to camp if i'm honest but I'm sure I will be fine after a good breakfast here. I am going to try and upload my blogs too!
Sorry for all the details... a bit graphic I know but there you go. I'm honestly fine, I think, so don't worry! Tom x

I know you're quite remote but if you see anything like Yakult anywhere - down it! (had similar experience once in India...not good) It's many years since I was in Tanzania but I remember random corner shops in the most unexpected places, usually run by Sikhs, that sold everything!! God bless and take care
