We awoke at 6:00 am, showered and got packed for our 7:00 taxi to the airport for our 10:30 am flight. I went downstairs to check out only to discover that the flight had been changed to 13:20 pm.
We had petit dejeuner at the hotel instead. Mary went for another walk, only to return in a few minutes to get me and take me to a street market a block away. Meat, fish, and vegetables. The last time I was at a French fish market there were more flies than fish. This market was clean and fresh and so inviting that I wanted to stay, rent a room with a kitchen and come back to buy some of the fresh meat and cook it. One was a bacon wrapped turkey!
French driving, however, has not improved. Motorcycles drive between cars on the freeways at great speed narrowly missing side mirrors as they drive between cars. Little short stubby cars do the same. Yesterday I was stopped at a light on the way to Avis. A car was waiting behind me at the light, and I use that word jokingly as the car was about 5 feet long, all of a sudden he drove to the right of me in the gutter and then pulled in front of me! Had we been in Chicago I am sure a gun fight would have ensued!
We arrived DeGaulle Airport by cab around 11:00 am with two hours to kill. Mary went for the duty free shops and I headed for the first class Lounge and a particularly good bottle of French Medoc. This airport is huge but it took less than ten minutes to get through security once the lady in front of us removed the three 32 oz bottles of water from her carry ons. What was she thinking?
We just found out that our flight has now been delayed until 2:00 pm. Where's that Medoc? We finally pushed away from the gate at 2:30 pm after two classes of champagne. Business class seats are of a different design on the Airbus A380 but still very comfortable,
Life is good!
The difference between men and women! When we got on the plane and Mary went to sleep. I put a blanket on her. She said she didn't want anything. I started watching a movie. When dinner arrived an hour later I awoke her. I continued watching the movie while we ate dinner. I pulled off my headphones at one point to ask her how her dinner was, at which point she announced she was disappointed that I had watched a movie instead of talking to her during dinner. I immediately felt like I should go to the airplane toilet and slit my wrists. Wha?
We landed at Dulles at around 5:00 pm and took a $75 cab ride to the Willard Through rush-hour traffic. With the exception of Brenners in Baden-Baden this is the nicest hotel we stayed at for the price. At $239 with a $100 bar credit, free breakfast, and upgrade to a huge room this is a beautiful 5 star hotel.
We had dinner at the sidewalk café outside the hotel. Then a quick walk around the White House complex which is about a block from the hotel. Then back to the room and sleep.
