Koray I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip to Istanbul and Kas and hope you may keep that promise :) Not that Marriott Hotel but some banks and synagogues have been attacked by al qaeda. Hundreds of innocent people have been killed. Even the British Embassy.. We had some bad days.. Also there's another terrorist organization, pkk. So in order to be safe, places like hotels, shopping malls are using these kinds of safety measures.

Koray Well, first of all you're right. We aren't Arabs :) But we don't consider Arabs "dirty" people.. Its a bad generalization Second, if you aren't used to it, don't drink Raki or else you'll feel like you've been beaten by Mike Tyson in the morning if you drink enough.. Third, probably the waiter doesn't know what on the rocks means.. And in general if you put too much ice in a drink it may be considered a bad thing.. We have a glass of coke filled with ice.. Which means, the restaurant puts too much ice in order to give us less coke :)) I mean some people may think like that.. I don't know.. It's fun to read your blog by the way :)

Koray The history lesson is great and I agree with you.. Ataturk passed away at 9:05 instead of 9:30 and the rest is absolutely right.. Once a mighty empire became the sick man of Europe in the last days of Khalifat but thanks God we had Ataturk. A great politician, visionary and a true hero..

It's not just in Istanbul, it's true for every single city in Turkey.. I'm still reading your blog and I hope you had a chance to visit places like Istinye Park and Nisantasi.. Anyways, I'll find out soon..

Koray Well actually the district you went is called Eminonu district and in general we don't call that place fancy :) I also have to tell you that there are many Arab tourists in Istanbul these days, thanks to the Arab Spring and the Turkish tv shows in Arabic countries. So most probably some of them you've seen were Arab tourists :) And finally hope you didn't pay too much for the taxi ride from Dolmabahce Palace to Grand Bazaar.

Koray Actually in general we don't prefer the dryers as we have a general belief that they harm the clothes.. So generally most of the people prefer not to use them. On the other hand prices are very affordable if you need one.

Anwuarhossine I had no idea about the social work ecutadion part so I was blown away by the info you shared here. In this vein, Lori Davidson, who is on our staff, coordinated a panel of folks from the local consumer organization to speak in Amy Mendenhall's psychopathology class. Not sure if it's happened yet but that sort of thing is completely win-win for everyone and a powerful experience for students. Have I shared this with you:

Juan I apologize if this is going in a dinfreeft direction. But what kind of career goals does the typical actuary have? And will heavier statistical skills facilitate those goals or pigeonhole actuaries into roles that many don't want to go in?I've worked at two of those companies that were listed above with those predictive modeling job openings and those roles didn't seem to have a lot of upward mobility. Many of the other actuaries I have worked with aspire to roles in product management and other upper management areas. In my very limited professional experience, not many people get into those roles by building a career in the predictive modeling department. Again, in my very limited experience the actuary was typically directing the modeling department, providing a vision of what the final product would look like, directing the project work, and facilitating implementation.

Arun Thanks LFRYARTGUY!I do mostly seaptarion work myself and at some point it got busy and I didn't want to send customers walkin. So necessity is where these tools originated. if they'd only make a turned into a unique tool one at a time. Thanks again and thanks for the kind words!Steve
