Today appears to be a day of rest. Andrea and Salih both have to work today. Their last day I found out yesterday. Everyone begins to arrive from the states as well, and I have no intention of trying to get around on our own. Andrea's place is out in "the burbs" quite a distance from all the attractions. So we decided to hang around the apartment and relax. I mean if God got a day of rest after simply creating the heavens and earth in six days, we deserve a day of rest after a week on the road. We have four more days before we leave for Kas on the southern tip of Turkey for the wedding.
Maybe a walk later..........
Day of rest my a**! We went for a walk that ended up as a bus ride back to the Dolmabahce Palace. Today it was closed. Go figure! So we grabbed a cab and went in search of the Grand Bazzar. Which meant we had to climb a mountain through tiny streets stuffed with people shopping. I've never seen that many people crammed into that small of a space. In my people watching mode, I noticed that Turkish women get the same dull look on their faces as they walk in one direction while window shopping in the opposite direction as American women do. About half the women I saw were covered, either dressed all in black with faces covered or dressed in a drab raincoat outfit and head scarfs. After the bazzar, we headed back to the bridge for lunch and a rest from the mountain climbing. While at lunch I watched a Muslim couple walk by. The woman was covered. They stopped at the railing for a photograph. The woman took a picture of her husband smiling with the New Mosque in the background first. Then he took a picture of her which I found bizarre. She was dressed all in black, her completely covered except for her eyes which were also covered with the thick black frames of her glasses. She looked like a ninja with goggles on! How is anybody going to know who was in the picture?
Oh well, to each his own!
A quick cab ride back to Andrea's got us home a half hour before she arrived home.

Micki Mary is getting you in shape for those long strolls around Paris!!
Koray Well actually the district you went is called Eminonu district and in general we don't call that place fancy :) I also have to tell you that there are many Arab tourists in Istanbul these days, thanks to the Arab Spring and the Turkish tv shows in Arabic countries. So most probably some of them you've seen were Arab tourists :) And finally hope you didn't pay too much for the taxi ride from Dolmabahce Palace to Grand Bazaar.
