We arrived In Paris at noon. AMEX couldn't find us a room in Paris during the 3 hour trip into town. Something is going on because all the rooms are taken we ended up in another 5 star hotel for 420 euros a night. I found out that this week is fashion week in Paris. There are 110 fashion shows this week alone.
Entering Paris without a specific hotel to go to is NOT recommended. The biggest problem is parking, you can't stop long enough to catch your breath. AMEX did find us a room in a high end hotel called the "The Lutetia Hotel" at the last minute for $425 euros a night. There is NO parking in Paris, so for another 39 euros we bedded down our car for the night.
After checking in we went for lunch at a brasserie across the street. Onion soup and jambon des pays. The jambon was delicious, the onion soup was horrible. It tasted like Lipton onion soup. We left our luggage at the desk and went for a walk. We walked across the Seine and wandered through the Jardin des Tuileries down to the square where the guillotine was set up during the French revolution, around the Place de la Concorde and then back to the hotel arriving around 4:00 pm. After a short drink, I set us up for a dinner cruise on the Seine tonight at 7:30. It started pouring down rain around 6:00.
What a wonderful way to spend a rainy night in Paris. The boat trip was wonderful although a little light on sightseeing. The food was horrendous. As with most French food it was a little pretentious. Duck confit? Soft boiled egg with mushrooms? The best part was the cheese course and the wine.
When we finished up near the Eiffel Tower we walked around the tower grounds before catching a cab back to the hotel. We got back to the hotel around midnight.
Lights out at midnight in anticipation of the alarm going off at 7:00 am so we can go turn the rental car in by 9:00 am.
Goodnight all!
