Ok, OK, it´s been a while. But with trips to the jungle, altitude sickness and rubbish computers it has not been easy!!
So where was I, ah yes, Buenos Aires.
We left Puerto Iguassa to catch our flight to BA only to discover the taxis were on strike for a reason that had absolutely nothing to do with them. Our hostel owner kindly gave us a lift and we got to the airport nice and early and were bumped on to an earlier flight! We got to our hostel, called V&S, in BA and went for a wander round the local area. The hostel was excellent, very clean and excellent location although the staff could have been a little more helpful!
The next day we got the subway to Palermo and just wandered around, through the botanical gardens (which we nicknamed the "cat park" as there were loads of cats), past the zoo and on to Recoleta. We visisted the cemetery where Evita is buried and a nice market around it.
We started the next day in much the same the way, except heading to San Telmo and it's market. A further wander from there led us to another park which has to go down as one of the strangest experiences of my life. The park was full of people in clown suits just randomly sitting about chatting and not doing anything clown-like. Needless to say, we nicknamed this park the "Clown Park". After that strangeness we got a taxi to Feria de Mataderos which is a cowboy market. We wandered some stalls, watched some live music and some horsey type events. Penny bought herself a proper cowboy hat. I am not quite sure why.
We visited some more areas of the city the next day and headed back to San Telmo in the evening for a nice meal and a tango show. It was very good (if you like that kind of thing!!).
We spent half the next day trying to send a parcel of bits and bobs home. It was not easy and it was not fun! We wandered some more, had a horrible meal and went back to the hostel to prepare for our trip to La Paz and on to the Amazon.
Overall, BA was nice but nothing to write hope about. Perhaps thats why this blog has been a long time coming.
