It is the weekend and we left Paris for the day and caught the train to Rouen in Normandy. Darcy and I got to read our books on the way which was great as we are pretty tired after yesterday's climb and walking tour.
Rouen is where Joan of Arc was held prisoner and then Martyred. She stood up for things and people did not like that and they burnt her at the stake. We went into the tower she was held Prisoner in and also the church that was Bukit over the spot she was killed. It is my favourite church, all roomy and airy and had a really cool candle area. ( each church or cathedral, you can buy a candle and say a prayer for someone, and they sit on tables or stands but in this one it was a like a flowing coat or flame).
We also went into the cathedral which Monet painted ( we saw 5 of his paintings of the Rouen Cathedral in the Musee de Orsay). This church was pretty grey and we got caught up with some other people and an old lady took us into a special area and told us all about it, but it was all in French and mum could only make out bits and pieces.
Then we wandered around and saw this clock tower ( see the photo) and the ministry of Justice which still had the scars from the Second World War when the Germans bombed the city. The streets were pretty narrow with Tudor style buildings but instead of black and white in England they were reds and Browns.
We caught the train home to Paris and got back just after 7 and then had dinner near our hotel. We tried to have an early night as tomorrow is the final stage of the Tour de France and Dad is going to ride the course early tomorrow morning with some. People from the Peloton Cafe.
