Today the girls did a special visit day at their soon be new school - Greenschool.
Check it out www.Greenschoolbali.org - mind-blowing private American school in the middle of jungle made out of bamboo! As I couldn’t remember how to find my way there from the back streets of Ubud, I stopped and hired a driver for the day ($20 and that is tourist prices, I was running late, so haggling with the Driver - before my morning coffee was out of the question!).
After convincing a local Taxi Driver that I was indeed a FAB ozzie female driver, who had been driving since she was 15 (without incident I might add) ….. he reluctantly got into the passengers seat of my hire car, with his fellow taxi crew, laughing and blessing him to make sure the Gods protected him from the “Orang Asing” whose insisting she must drive.
Not 100 meters up the road, Erica misjudged a parked car and completely took off another cars right rear view mirror. Thank god my mirror remained attached by the electric wiring - indicator still blinking! Well if you can imagine a VERY PALE Indonesian man (resembling more of pasty white Irish Lad!) sitting in my passenger seat - preying to his Gods constantly. Brookie, Sienna and I were giggling like nothing you have seen. I was doubled over with hysterics! We had to drive the rest of the day with the electric window holding it in place as it wouldn’t quite reach into the car. So needless to say we suffered the heat of the day, driving to Greenschool with the front passenger window half down to accommodate the newly “relocated” wing mirror. Driving in Bali is hard enough WITH WING MIRRORS, so Erica was a little under pressure driving the rest of the day with only 1 wing mirror in tact! God I’m going to be a great driver if I can navigate Bali roads without any mirrors in place. (don’t laugh Narelle!)
All I can say, for those of you that have never been to Bali, if you come and visit me and think my driving was bad back in Ozzie/NZ - then you MUST bring a Valium Prescription with you. You will see me at my best here. No Rules ….. WAHOO!!!
The Yeats girls ironed their hair for the first time in over 2 week since leaving ozzie (and Sienna let me remove her adored dreadlocks with a brush for the first time in months!)….we were off into town to meet or new found friends at Jazz Café, which have live Jazz bands throughout the week. The girls loved the atmosphere and Erica loved the Salsa session! Brookie and Sienna even had their own groove going on. Ubud is full of Latin/Jazz/Salsa classes and venues every night of the week! So guess where the Yeats girls will spend a few nights a week having lessons.
Erica’s in her element!
