Well after a load of cyclone-related arjee-barjee we finally made it up to Mission Beach. I only had one night there (because of all the delays) but it was my last night (or so we thought) with our little group and so we made the most of it! We were told about a place that, apparently, does the best Roo in Oz so we all took off to that. I had mine with plum sauce - bloody delicious! I'm getting a bit partial to skippy steaks. Wonder if you can get them at home?
The girls bought about three gallons of "Passion Pop" - like fizzy Lambrini but worse, only costs $5 a bottle though - and we had a sad farewell drinkee. We somehow ended up in the pool until 5am, playing volleyball and re-enacting scenes from Dirty Dancing on a log that was stretched across the deep-end.
Set off to Cairns alone the next morning - felt a bit wierd to be honest - but then I ran into a guy from our Whitsundays trip, and lad I met in Kroombit and two girls I met on Magnetic Island on the bus so the wierdness didn't last long. We stopped off at AJ Hackett's bungy place on the way to Cairns and me and the girls went Minjin Swingin.
Now I can only guess that the name conjures up the same images for you that it did for me but it's actually a bungy swing. The 3 of us were put into a harness and then hoisted backwards to 120m above the ground. Once we got the signal I had to pull on a rope - I was so scared it took me ages! - then we had a free-fall of about 60m before the rope catches your weight. Then you swing through the air at 100km an hour until the momentum slows. God knows what I'd be like with a real bunjee or a sky dive I nearly passed out with shock!
Arrived in Cairns and was staying in a different hostel to the guys but, this being me, I wasn't on my own for long and got chatting to a bloke from Essex and two Swedish guys. We met up with the guys from the bus, bumped into Katie and Gerrard and went on a bender in Cairns. I bumped into a lad I travelled in Thailand with and between the two groups we had a Beano!
More of the same the next night and then spent the whole of my last day in Oz playing cards, lazing by another lagoon and not doing very much. My flight wasn't until midnight and it turned out that one of the lads I was with was on the same flight so we just stayed around the hostel bar until our airport shuttle picked us up.
After all the drama surrounding my "last night" with the girls they turned up a few hours before I left! It was great to see the 4 of them and we had another send-off drinkee before me and Darren finally left.
Next stop - FIJI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
