So I survived another week @ work, with the help of getting Tuesday off since it was a local holiday - not sure why but I am aware that the place died and no1 was around. So my three day week was not to much bother.
My boss Stefan was traveling down to Cordoba for a conference, a good 6 hour drive away and asked if any1 wished to join him. Jumping at the chance of a free lift to a new far of land I said yes!! I was the only one willing or able to go, since I'm a lucky sod who gets fridays off. So of I went with a man I hardly know to sit in his car for 6 hours - which by the way is a heck of a long time.
We arrived at 3, and of I set in search of a hostel - Stefan was staying at some fancy hotel courtesy of Cambridge, so search I did, and find I also did. Nice enough place for the money I paid, although the owner seemed a bit weird, and kept kissing me everytime he saw me. The kissing part - on the cheeks, is not uncommon, but EVERYTIME you see some1 COME ON!!! not necessary.
He did however tell me that if I went to the Mezquita on the Sat morning, and not later that day I would get in free. So cheapskate that I am (come on its 8 euros) I went on the Sat morning. I did do other things on the Fri, like visit the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, which I still am not sure what it was for, but it looked like a big castle and great views. I also saw the sinagoga, which there are only 3 of in the whole of Spain, and some other historical sites that I wont bore you with.
Anyways, had a good few days in the sun, and either my Spanish has improved immensly or the town was more keyed up for the tourists and everyone could speak English. I'm up for believing the first lol.
I also went to Medina Azahara, which is 8km away from Cordoba to see some ruins, which was built at the time when the Arabs were in Spain (for whoever actually knows) the place only stood for 80 years before someone thought - that's to pretty to have, lets knock it down.
Met some nice people along the way, two girls who are currently living in Madrid and said if I was ever planning on visiting I should give them a call, and also a very nice man who owned a cafe. I had decided to go in, funnily enough for food, and upon trying very very hard to ask for a cherizo sandwich and coke, to be answered in the broadest Glaswegian accent ever "take a seat outside love and i'll bring them to you" the look of sheer horror or surprise could not be masked on my face, for which he apologiesed and said something in Spanish, I took my seat outside and later spoke to the man, his mum is Spanish, his dad is fae Glasgow, although I don't feel that excuses the accent.
6 hours home, and lesson plans quickly drawn up to start another week at work.
