So its been a couple of weeks since my last update and although I never thought it was possible - Alcoy came alive!!!!
I celebrated my birthday a couple of days after returning from Cordoba, so thanks for all the bday wished, I didn't do anything on my actual bday, since I was working, but I went out with a few friends on the Friday night for Tapas and beer - a relitively quite night because Alcoy was having a festival to celebrate the half year anniversary of the Moors and Christian war. And man do they know how to celebrate.
Alcoy is a subdued, quiet town/village, where not much really ever seems to happen, but on the Sat night, everyone came out to watch the different Filas march down the street. This is only a dress rehersal, in April/May time they do it for real, with costumes and even more drinking. Alcoy reminded me of Edinburgh on New Years eve, but only busier!!!
Got in at 6.30 in the morning, even though others were still going strong, and spent the Sunday recovering. This festival however gave me great opportunities for all of my classes throughout the week, as we discussed it, and how different it would be from the real thing. My awful class, teenagers, were taught all the different words for being pissed . . . there are a fair few by the way, and it took most of the lesson. In return they gave me Spanish words for the same thing, enlightening!!
With one festivity down, Cocentaina, a neighbouring village/town thing had their own. Much more family orientated, with masses of market stalls selling anything from tractors to swimming pools, jewelry or food. Mucho fun was had by all, and even better, we remember most of it. We went there Saturday and Sunday for a few hours, got to see different shows and performers. It helped that we had just been paid, always good when you set out for a shopping trip.
Monday was also a holiday - they really like them here :) and so no work, however a Spanish lesson. I've been getting these on a regular basis. On monday it was different tho, Javier took me up to Fonta Roja, which is the national park in Alcoy, the views from the mountain are amazing and you can see over the whole of Alcoy.
Now back to work - only a three day week so can't complain in the slightest
