After last night there is no way we were geting up early! First lie in of the trip and it was much needed! We didn't get back till 7am, just in time for breakfast before dragging ourselves into bed.
A few hours sleep later and it's off to a footy game today! Funny how none of are that much into football and have never seen a match back at home yet alone even own a football shirt!
So it seems our hard work bargaining for shirts hasn't paid off....we arrived downstairs to see everyone in Boca Juniors navy and yellow footy shirts and here you have us four girl looking like lemons with our Argentina 'Messi' tops!
All onboard the rowdy footy bus en route to La Boca, home to one of Argentina's leading football clubs, Boca Juniors. First stop is a make shift bar or what I like to call someones back garden with a shed, for BBQ street food and plenty of beers to get everyone pumped up for the match.
The whole experiece is completly different to the U.K. Everyone roams around the streets untill you reach 'security' where they like to frisk you down, then you have to walk to La Bomboner stadium where you queue up to enter in a not so systematic way.
The stadium itself if a huge concrete block! You have the rich area with individual seats then the concrete brenches where you squeeze your way through, spreading your body as much as possible to guard your so called seat. Little did we know people jump, barge, crawl, basically go through any means neccessary to get closer to the pitch, well in Devi's case it was having a dude sit on her foot (she lost her slippers for a few minutes)!! The game hasn't even begun and all claws were out to secure your area, if your dared stand to take a photo, when you went back to sit down I gurantee it will be on someone elses lap! These Argentinians are fast!!
Never in London will you experience the atmosphere of a football game like we did! It's crazy, somewhat dangerous but fun. The inner hooligan in us was unleashed. The fans sang non stop numerous songs which we just pretended to know the words, throughout the whole game. They would jump up and down continuously and if you dared not to join in they would practically lift you up and down!!
When a goal was scored they went mental! On the other hand when the opposing teams goal keeper went to kick the ball the Bocca fans would all start a drum roll and then shout a swear word as he kicks the ball! This was every single time!
Before the game had even started there was a large celebratory display with confetti and balloons ribbons etc all over the pitch! Hmmm overconfident?!
The crowd itself was mixed with all ages, even the oldies were chanting away. I'm also pretty sure the stadium was way over it's capacity.
Although the football played in the game wasn't great (overheard someone say that!) the experience was amazing. Hardest part was exiting the stadium!
With the adrenaline still flowing around, we decided to continue the night by heading to our hostel bar for drinks followed by a hiphop club.
The club itself was straight out of a scene from the movie Save the Last Dance. First with rappers having a slang match then with breakdancers clearing the dance floor areas to do their thing! It was amazing to watch the dance off's, back flips, robot moves etc. Kinda dressed inappropriately, should of got a cap, big hoop earings and shaved half my hair off!
