We started our first full day in Hamilton by getting up real early to make our way over to Hobbiton the movie set for the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies! This was really really awesome! It looked so much like the movies! Everything on set was real for example all the pumpkins and vegetables and flowers growing were all natural and had to be looked after by the Hobbiton gardeners! We were able to walk around the set and look at all the hobbit houses which were really cute! They even had clothes lines with hobbit clothes drying on them! At the end of time in Hobbiton we were able to go to the Green Dragon pub and have a drink! We both had the cider which was really good! All the drinks were specially brewed for the Green Dragon pub and Hobbiton which made it really special!
After Hobbiton we made our way to Waimangu Volcanic Valley and the geysers which were really cool. We went on a long walk around the volcano to see all the thermal hot springs! There was so much steam coming from the geysers! When we finished our walk we had a boat ride around the volcano and saw even more geysers! This was really cool! It was nice to see some natural sights rather than the manufactured ones we are used to in London!
After visiting the volcano we drove to Mt Ngongotaha and went up the skyline gondola which was so beautiful! We had such a nice view and could see for miles around! When we reached the top of the mountain we went on a luge track part way down the mountain! This was super fun! When we reached the bottom of the track we got a ski lift back up the mountain and went on the luge again and again! It was so awesome!
We then spent the evening at Te Puia a Maori cultural experience. We received a traditional Maori welcome and then went into the meeting house and watched a cultural show, this was really good, we learnt a lot about the culture and were also able to get onstage with the performers and learn a traditional Maori dance. The performers were so talented and the show was amazing! After the show we had a traditional hangi dinner. The meal consists of meats and potatoes being cooked on burning hot rocks underground. This was so tasty, we ate so much we were still full the day after!
After the cultural experience had finished we headed to The Mount where we stayed Friday night ready for next day of adventures on Saturday!
Friday was a really awesome day! We had so much fun!
