Dumaguete 24th May (Day 81)
Hello everyone,
We left the beach house in Siquijor early in the morning in order to catch the ferry to Dumaguete. The ferry was quite small and very busy, we managed to find some seats but they were very small and I could not fit my legs in properly, so I was basically jammed in my seat for an hour. To add to this discomfort for we must have been sitting right above the engine and so the floor was burning our feet whilst the noise of the engine made it impossible to hear each other. After the hour journey we were very happy to get of the ferry and explore Dumaguete.
Our first impression of Dumaguete was good as it was nice to experience a city in the Philippines that was relatively small and so had retained some of its charm and wasn't too busy or polluted.
We quickly found a place to stay, a nice family room with aircon and TV opposite the large central market. Whilst we were settling into the room a quick scan of the television channels in our room revealed the 24 hour karaoke channel. Unfortunately due to our limited time in the city we did not have time to sing along with any of the classic 80s rock ballads and instead we went to explore the city.
We wandered through the local market buying a few things and taking lots of photos. To our surprise and unlike the previous countries we had visited the locals were excited to see we were taking photos and keen to join in and would group together to be photographed all smiling and laughing. After the market we wandered around a little more which took us past the church and some Spanish colonial buildings. We then grabbed some dinner and headed back to the hotel room to pack once again as we were moving on the following morning.
Hope you are all well x x
