Apo Island 28th May - 30th May (Day 85 - 87)
We took the bus back in the direction of Dumaguete for around 6 hours and got off in a small village before getting on another boat to take us to the resort on Apo Island. Apo is a tiny island surrounded by coral and great diving spots , located to the South of Negros.
The island itself it very picturesque and we were blessed with fantastic weather whilst we were there. Our room was very small for 4 people but had a balcony with a lovely view out to sea. As Apo is a small island all provisions need to be brought from the mainland, as a result we had limited electricity and no running water, instead we had a water trough in the bathroom that was filled daily.
The main reason for coming to Apo was to give Amber a chance to go diving but it also offered a great opportunity for the rest of us to go snorkelling around the coral surrounding the island. Tina in particular got hooked on snorkelling and went out whenever she could. We were especially keen to try and find some of the turtles that live around the Island. Unfortunately we did not get to see any turtles but the multitude of other fish and coral on display made up for any disappointment. One area in particular called The Sanctuary had an amazing array of fish, including a huge army of Jackfish and many other fish of numerous different shapes, colours and sizes, including lots of large blue starfish and nemos.
When we weren't in the sea we spent some time wandering around the small village in the middle of the island. Once again the people were incredibly warm and interested in us and especially keen to pose for photos, particularly the kids, often asking us to take photos of them. Whilst walking around the village we watched some locals play basketball and were invited to try some chocolate rice pudding. After the walk we came back to the beach and watched locals; including children collect driftwood arriving at the beach after the recent storms and carry it all home in huge sacks. This was followed up by a beautiful sunset.
After 2 great days in Apo once again it was time to move on but we had really enjoyed our time on this tiny island.
