The big attraction today was Ahn!
What a day! When we left at 9:15AM for the governmental office, our liaison, Min, told us that she would bring the six children out one at a time. Trev & Teri went to wash their hands, thinking we had some time, and Ahn and his nanny came out before they got back. Trev saw him first, held him, and they caught Teri by surprise - the look on her face was priceless - we think Doug caught it on the video. Ahn was very unhappy, kept reaching for his nanny, but we're not even sure that he knew her all that well. His foster mother had placed him in the orphanage only the night before, so the little guy was undoubtedly wondering what was going on. He cried pretty hard for what seemed like an eternity (a half hour?), but when the nanny finally left he calmed down in Teri's arms and fell asleep for awhile.
The trauma of the day was that Ahn came out in a pink outfit. Trevor thought that was why he was crying, the humiliation of it all. We will use these as blackmail when he goes through puberty. As soon as they got back to the hotel room, Trev was all over putting on the new Giants onesie and shorts they'd brought. Ahn looked great for his family picture later in the day. And we heard that he was outgoing and laughing as soon as he got outside of the hotel.
We think Teri & Trev are naturals at parenting. They were calm and gentle with Ahn, and he seemed to feel secure with them relatively quickly. They can tell you about the confusion today with Ahn's diet and feeding schedule - there was a little trauma, but in the midst of it all, they manifested great wisdom by using the "ace-in-the-hole" parenting tactic of introducing him to Cheerios for the first time. How did parents survive before General Mills?
Enjoy the pictures! It's been an exhausting day, but a wonderful one - one to write home about, for sure - Doug & Candy
