IKEA TIME!
Hey, it's me again...I suppose you're starting to get sick of these. Well, you get what you ask for. Frequent blog entries, that is. Seems like there's so much happening now...and so I have to write.
Right now I am officially a tenant and moved in. Basically I'm stuck between two places now but I'll be gone from the Newtown motel tomorrow or thursday at the latest. I got the keys...the only one I'm missing is the one to my mailbox, but they said that's "on its way". The apartment is small but in a good condition except for the balcony, which is completely covered in feathers and bird s***. If I understood the cleaner's Indian accent correctly on the phone, someone will clean it up tomorrow morning. But mark my words: Bulls***. I will probably have to take care of it myself.
Electricity is on, water too...now I'm struggling with the telephone lines/Internet connections. The telephone plug-in looks like it's from another planet. Certainly not a Finnish one. I have been trying to find out whether I need a new line or whether I just need to "activate" the one I have right now. Apparently (and hopefully) all I need to do is get the local telephone company to activate this. After that I am free to look for suitable broadband providers. However, it will probably take 2-3 weeks before this whole process is over and I can happily download...movies. Until then I will have to rely on the Internet cafes in the vicinity or find an unsecured wireless network I can leech of.
Wow, I gotta say once more that the rooftop rocks. It has clearly been built for parties and get togethers that the residents can host. There's even a sink there, and the view is magnificent. Especially at dusk. An awesome place to go to and have a few beers while watching the city skyline. You can even see the harbour bridge and the opera house from up there. Hopefully it will be a sunny day on thursday...
Tomorrow's the Ikea day. I will try and get all the necessary stuff purchased tomorrow so that I don't need to think about that anymore. Less than three days to Melbourne now. Stay tuned!
