Hi all
Had a problem with my iPad not charging so could not post yesterday.
Got up extra early on day 6 and had breakfast and was on the road by 8:30. As I was driving saw another light come on that I didn't recognize. I could not tell if it was a snowflake or a tire. Found out it was an indicator telling me the road was cold and there could ice.
Decided to go to Blarney Castle first. Not a bad drive and got there around 9:30. Seeing the castle in the fog was so surreal and magical. Blarney is a ruined castle with beautiful grounds. Walked the path to "The Rock Close" which is a Druid Glen. It was so amazing and mystical waterfalls and beautiful trees. There are legends that the local witch that resided offered blessings for tasks or by offering coins as sacrifice. One of the tasks is to go up and down the "Witch Stairs" with your eyes closed and concentrating hard on your wish. I of course did this :). There is the Witch's Kitchen used the timer on the camera take a picture of me in the kitchen. The trees and flowers are so magical!! I could feel the power in there mad me all tingly! There is a Witch's Stone which is supposed to look like a Witch's head. I left a couple pennies.
There Fairy Glade is amazing. So beautiful!
Ok I then made it up to the castle! All I can say is everyone must have been super skinny back then. I actually felt a little claustrophobic going up the stairs. I said I wasn't going to do it I know but the moment caught me and I had to kiss the stone. I decided that I needed all the luck I can get for this trip :)
On the way back down I met a couple older men who were from Kentucky. I heard one talk so had to ask where they were from.
You will see in the pictures they decked the castle out for Halloween.
I ended up leaving there after noon.
I started my way Glandore to see the Drombeg stone circle. Got there about 2 hours later. Had to park and walk down to a farm to get to it. There were two other women there. One was kind enough to take my picture. Really cool historic sight!
Then left to head towards Kenmare to see the stone circle there. I passed through a village called Bantry they had a huge cemetery with so many Celtic cross stones I had to stop. There was a service going on up the hill. I tried to be respectful and not take too many pictures their way. The bay there was pretty. Made it to Kenmare and found the circle the is an offering tree. I put my hair scrunchie on it. I also found sheep :)
It was very late after 3:30 then. I realized that I was not going to get to do the Ring of Kerry, just no time. The path I was taking would take me partly on it.
Ok I do not like driving on mountains!!!!! Had to go over two mountain ranges. Went over the Caha mountains the roads are so narrow and there are not a lot of railings and there are sheep to worry about getting on the road. I drove slow and let people pass me. Then went over the Kilarney National Park Torc Mountains, found a few places to stop to see awesome scenery. Stopped at a mountain lake not long before sunset. I did get off the mountain before dark than goodness!
I ended up getting in Galway at 8:30. Got checked into St. Jude's B&B. It is really nice! I am here until Monday morning. Yay their wifi works in my room so I can update in by bed before sleep.
Ate at a local pub has bacon (Ham) cabbage and potatoes.
After twelve hours of driving I collapsed and told them to get me breakfast at 9:00 am I am sleeping in!
