Got up today and had oatmeal for breakfast with coffee. Phyllis suggested I tour the town. It is old and has a historic wall and church.
Apparently my plan to go to the Ring of Kerry was not planned well since this town is 3 hours from there! I decided I would tour the town and the go to the Rock of Cashel in Tipperary county.
Took me longer to walk the town. I the harbor is pretty, and found a pottery shop and then found the church. It is amazing. Walked the graveyard which is huge! Took lots of pictures as you can see. Most stones are not readable if they are ancient. Climbed my way up to the tower and went up inside it. This was a defensive wall for the town. Found a way to use the timer on my camera :)
Inside the church the stained glass is beautiful and there are old tombs. Again most writings are not readable anymore. I paid for a couple clay runes which are cool. They are made to help fund the church. I then finished up outside. You will see the tower the bottom slopes out just like in Dublin as a defensive feature.
I found the garden and this little Jack Russell terrier came running to great me like she was waiting all day for me! She was walking the park with her owner. Her name was Holly and she posed nicely for me.
I made my way back to the B&B and headed out to Cashel. I ended up crossing the Knockmealdown Mountains. Was a nice drive and actually had to slow for sheep! I thought of my friend TC (inside joke) :)
Stopped and took some pictures and there is this hairpin turn called "The Vee" which was interesting. I am doing better at driving and it helps when there is sun! Finally got to Cashel and I was 10 minutes late :( they were closed. This was a 2 hour drive so no going back. I took the pictures I could and the headed back. I will watch times better from now on. Made my way back across the mountain and as I got closer to Youghal I was stopped by farmers bringing their cattle in. I truly feel I am in Ireland now! I think the farmers thought I was nuts I was smiling and taking pictures :D
This was the second day I saw rainbows! I need to find that pot o gold!
Back at the B&B and Phyllis made me coffee and I am finally caught up on my blogs! I plan to leave very early tomorrow since I will be going out of my way to see the ring of Kerry and Drombeg Circle and then up to Galway!
Night all !
