We flew into Palermo in Sicily and had our first pasta and coffee within an hour of so before catching the bus to Catania. Thankfully due to Kate knowing French and starting to learn Spanish we were able to ask for our bus tix and where things were, for accommodation , much things cost and other basics in Italian from our 1st day which helped a lot in Sicily as not much English was spoken. ( Although our Spanish is a bit jumbled now!) We stayed in a sweet B&B and had the best food in all of Italy, and met some lovely locals who were so friendly. We spent a day walking up Mt Etna the active volcano which was such a strange landscape with the black volcanic rock and craters. We loved Sicily so much it had such a dynamic vibe full of passionate expressive people and a bit of an edge ( and not much tourism) that made it seem so authentic. We would love to go back to Sicily again one day. ( especially Taormina and Stromboli)
