We then caught the bus, ferry and train to Pizzo (in Calabria) to catch up with Anthony (Peter's brother), Karen and the kids Drew & Rachel. Anthony has bought an apartment there so it was lovely to see it and meet some of the locals he had got to know and enjoy the great food as the weather unfortunately was very bad!
We then caught the train to Salerno to head up to Amalfi and happened to get talking to a lovely girl Sue who is a tour guide (and was heading back to Amalfi on her days off) so she helped us get a great deal in a gorgeous little B&B. We had a fun night having a few drinks and a lovely dinner and chatting to some of the locals she knew who were so friendly. The Amalfi coast is generally a dazzling blue however we still had bad weather with snow on the nearby mountains and lots of rain! We walked from Amalfi to a nearby village called Ravello up an old walking path. Ravello was very pretty (although very touristy along with the rest of the Amalfi coast)
We were planning on heading to Capri (a place where the legendary Tommy McMorrow says "you go when you die if you have been good" however due to the bad weather we will just have to wait to see it another time! We headed to Sorrento where we discovered a fab, cheap, local pizzeria and ate there for a few meals in a row (enough to put Kate off Pizza for a loooong time but not Poidda!) and used Sorrento as a base to explore Pompei which was brilliant to see in real life after learning about it in History at School. The most moving parts were the petrified casts of bodies who had been buried alive in the ash, and it was also interesting to see the every day life/homes/market life/baths as these people truly lived in a decadent lifestyle!
