This morning we had to check out of our little cabin in Oudtshoorn. It was a slow drive down to the coast with a few stops at little farm stalls and towns along the way.
When you park on the streets here a guy will come up to you and tell you they will watch your car. So you go off and do your shopping and when you come back they walk back to your car with you proudly telling you that it is still there and they expect payment, usually about 5 rand. They aren't employed by anyone to do it, they are usually residents from the local townships earning some drinking money. We call them the local entrepreneurs. I think I'm going to start my own business along the beachfront at The Bra, it's ingenious.
We arrived at Knysna at around 1pm and checked into our room which is up on the hill with fantastic views over the town and lagoon. After a quick drive around the town and a look through the shops we headed straight for the waterfront. So now it's all about the eating.
We went to the oyster bar and started the foodfest with a dozen fresh oysters. They came in three sizes, champagne, medium and large so we thought we would go for the medium. The waitress showed us examples of the sizes and they were huge. We quickly changed our minds to the smallest size. This was meant to be a foodfest after all and you don't want to go out in the first round. We downed the oysters with a glass of bubbles and then we walked around looking for a spot to go for round 2.
We then went to a different restaurant for a seafood platter. Fish, 2 types of prawns, mussels, calamari tubes and a big fat calamari steak. Phew.
We were both a TKO on round 2 and we're both now kicking back in our cute little room rubbing our fat bellies and wondering what we are going to get delivered in the morning for our breakfast.
