It was another early start to the day with both of us up at 6am. We finally have blue skies today so we decided to get going and take advantage of that while we could.
We had read that the line to get up to the Empire State Building can be out of control so we headed there first. I had always thought that the Empire State Building was the one with the curved dome but turns out that is the Chrysler Building, not the first time I've got it wrong here. Thankfully there were not too many people lining up and we were shuffled through the entrance in about 20 minutes. The building is beautiful and the views were amazing but the wind!! It just about blew us off and so cold. We walked all around the top and listened to the audio tour and then had to go back down to defrost. By the time we exited about an hour and a half after arriving, the line to go up was all the way down the street. We heard one of the staff telling people in the line they had a three hour wait.
We then walked down to Grand Central Terminal and did the audio tour. So many strange people go through there. I could sit and people watch all day.
Back on foot we made our way up 5th Avenue and wandered through Saks and then we headed up to Tiffany's. such a beautiful store. We may have even made a purchase or two. Then on to FAO Shwarts, the largest toy store with the big floor piano. We were going to have a go but it was kids only.
We consulted our lonely planet to see what else was in the area and decided to check out the Chrysler Building, which is right next to Grand Central Terminal. We need to get better at planning our day. When we finally got back there it was closed so we didn't get to see the inside.
By this time we were both exhausted so we headed back for a quick power nap before going to Gordon Ramsey's Maze restaurant.
The restaurant was lovely but we were amazed at the food portions. We ordered the 5 course tasting menu but each course came out the size of a regular meal so by course 3 we were both struggling. The food was amazing so we just wanted to keep going. Lucky we weren't drinking wine to take up any stomach space. Desert was a sticky date pudding which was just devine so we crammed that in as well. They then gave us some salted chocolate balls which I couldn't fit in at all but the woman next to us said they were to die for, so I got a napkin and made Elstub wrap then up for me and sneak them in her pockets. They can be my treat for tomorrow.
We then had a slow waddle back to our room taking in a little of New York at night before crashing into bed. It's been a huge day.
