I managed to get to Oxford with my housemate Helen, just for a few hours today- its an expensive place, but worth visiting again. I really wanted to just see the university and the Eagle and Child pub- both bringing out my inner book geek :-) the pub is the one that the Inklings used to meet at for a drink- including the great CS Lewis and JR Tolkien themselves!
We stayed until nightfall which meant we got to see the pretty streets and old buildings lit up and the Christmas markets were nestled amongst the castle grounds making for a very pretty and festive sort of activity!
I'd definitely go again- they have a free 2hr walking tour which I would like to do to learn more about the history etc. it was a lovely afternoon- freezing, but worth the drive!!
