My first impressions of Amsterdam was that as soon as I stepped off the bus I could smell weed. I knew Amsterdam was known for the fact that it's actually legal to do cannabis but I didn't realize that every second shop would be a 'coffee shop.'
We checked into our hostel and then headed to the notorious "red light district." I think the word interesting best describes it. Lots of sex shops, coffee shops and naked girls standing in windows. In Amsterdam it's actually a legal profession to be a prostitute. This means they have to pay tax and shockingly if they get a boob job they can claim it back on tax for their job! It's nuts!!!! Anyway as an optional with Topdeck we all chose to go to a sex show. It was pretty funny to say the least! Especially when they started pulling people up from our group!
The next morning we went for a bike ride of the city. It was a lovely day and a great way to see the area. I'm pretty sure our tour guide was stoned though! That afternoon we went and saw Anne Franks house and then just walked around the canals and shops. Amsterdam is a very scenic and one of the most prettiest cities we've been to! The houses and canals make it very unique. That night we went on a canal cruise and then hit the local clubs and bars. It was a good night until our tour leader took the saying "go out on a bang" too far and got his nose broken!
As I wasn't going back to London with the group, the next morning I got up and said goodbye to everyone. It was quite sad watching the bus drive away as it meant that the tour was officially over. I'm definitely going to miss everyone! When you've spent every minute with these people for the last month and are all doing the same thing, you definitely form a bond and I think that some of these people will remain life long friends. Now that this trip is over I think that it has given me a new outlook on life. I've now seen and experienced so many other cultures that it kind of makes me realise how lucky I am. It was a pretty full on adventure, going through 16 countries in 34 days. Lots of late nights, early mornings and a go go go attitude, however I don't regret a thing. People ask me if I'm having the time of my life and I think that this trip was the definition of that.
