So I thought Dubrovnik was pretty cool but Budapest is even better! I've spoken to a few people who have travelled Europe and they all said Budapest was up there as one of their favourite places and now I see why. It's certainly now one of my favourites. First off we went on a driving tour of the city to familiarize ourselves. We went to this castle which is where Katy Perry's music video for Firework is filmed. It had great views of the city and looked like something out of a fairytale. That night for dinner we had a Hungarian classic dish called goulash which is like a beef stew.
The next day we caught the train into the city. It was a pretty interesting train ride. Let's just say I stood next to a person holding a real life eagle in my face. First off we walked up a massive hill, intending to go see this elaborate network of underground caves, only to get to the top and discover it was closed. It was a bit of a bummer, not to mention waste of energy. We then went to The House of Terror. It's where the Nazi headquarters were and then later the Soviet Communist Headquarters. Nowadays it's a museum where you can still go down into the basements and see where interrogations and executions used to take place. It's pretty freaky and sends a chill down your spine as in each cell there's pictures of the people who were in that cell and accounts of what went down in them. Some of the stuff was pretty horrific. Seeing it's getting to the end of the tour and bus sars is spreading and everyone is sick we then decided to go heal and cleanse ourselves in the ancient Turkish baths. It's a big set of thermal baths and swimming pools, kind of like hot springs. It was so relaxing and I even got a massage. Sadly though, I thought sitting in a sauna and steam room for ages would make me feel better but surprisingly I think it made my cold, cough and rash worse! We left the baths, went out for dinner and after such a long, tiring day were so glad to get to bed.
As I said before Budapest is up there as one of my favourite places. Definitely a place I would love to come back to and spend a lot more time at.
