My trip to Munich was very amazing. I was so impressed how beautiful a city Munich is. It is a city with history everywhere. There is so much to do there, I did not see everything but I am sure it is a place that I would like to revisit.
My first major place that I visited was Dachau. It was a very emotional experience to see a concentration camp in person. Dachau was the first concentration built by the the third reich. The stories told by the camp show the heartbreaking experiences of the many who suffered. I saw the prison part of the camp and learning the horrible tortures that were given such as being forced to stand for a day. Then, I went to the museum of the camp which showed a great amount of historic documents regarding Dachau, Jews, and the Third Reich. I saw a uniform of one of the inmates-shirt, pants, and shoes, saw the different patches which showed why the they were in Dachau, and read the lists of the items compensated from those forced to come to Dachau. Then, walking across the yard, I saw the barracks of those who lived there in the horrible cramped conditions. Walking to the other side of the camp, I went into the crematory building. Also, inside the buidling are the gas chambers. Although they never used them for some unknown reason, it was a chilling experience. Words cannot describe the experience of going to Dachau.
The next day, I had the enchanting experience of going to Neuschwanstein. For those who do not know, it is the castle that inspired Cinderella's castle. It is about a two hour train which one can observe the beautiful Bavarian country side. Neuschwanstein is probably the most beautiful castle in the world. The views from the village below is incredible. It is then about a 30 minute leisurely walk up to the castle. It was fun to look around. Inside the castle is even more enchanting. There is so much detail in every object. It was a day very well spent.
On my last full day in Munich, I discovered Munich even more. I climbed up the tower of the church Old Peter to discover a beautiful panaramic view of Munich. Then, we met Justin-Fred's friend from Oregon who lives in Munich, to go to the English Garden walking through a nice part of Munich. It is a very large park, quite nice. We had lunch at a beer garden right next to the Chinese tower. Next, we walked to the university, and had a coffee. After that, we went on a Third Reich tour. That was a very interesting and informative tour to see how all that history happed. We had a very good guide who was in the American army and has lived in Munich.
I am so glad that I had the chance to go on this trip. Munich is a very nice city-with good food/beer and people. I hope to go back.
