It has been a long time...I left Germany on August 27th to go to Strasbourg, France. I spent two wonderful days in Strasbourg-it is a gorgeous city. The main highlights are its very beuatiful-very huge cathedrale, Petite France-the area around the canal, and the European Institutions including the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, and the European Court on Human Rights(although I only saw these building from the outside).
Then I left for Lyon, my main destination for the year. Lyon is a wonderful city-it is beautiful, lots of things to do, and is the gastronomic capital of France. For my first two weeks, I had my orientation classes-basically French classes. I also had the chance to attend two tours of Fourvière and Vieux Lyon-the oldest and prettiest parts of Lyon by an excellent tour guide who told my group all the secrets of Lyon. I started my classes exactly one month ago. I am taking the U.S. Presidency(in English), Geography of the Arab World, the Contemporary History of the Arb World, the History of France Since 1940-lecture and discussion group. I am taking all my classes at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques.
A little more than two weeks ago, I spent the weekend in Britany in St. Malo. I had a good time. It is a very nice region. I had the chance to go to Mont St. Michel which I would have to say it just as impressive if not more so in real life.
Yesterday, I was able to go hiking in the Beaujolais region-just north of Lyon that is very famous for its wine with a group called Lyon International. It was a large group of international students so I got to meet a few people. The region is so beautiful. It was a very fall like day-fog in morning, the scent of wood burning. We visited two villages and picniqued in front of the chateau where we had a wine tasting.
