I have survived my first night in turkey! I really really like it here,as you can tell from the picture it's very warm here but nice in the shade with a breeze,my flight over was good dozed watched a bit of the avengers,ate...standard,so far so good.
Got to the airport missed the sign that said I needed to buy a visa went through the whole line to get my passport stamped and got told to go back and get a visa, then I had to stand in line all over again which was even longer so by the time I got through I had no idea what carrousel my luggage was on and because I took so long it wasn't on the screen anymore, well this was stressful walking up and down all the carrousels trying to find my luggage, ended up going to lost and found and told me which carrousel it should be on,Chloe one, luggage lost zero .
Finally got thought the gates to see familiar face Jimbo! Was so relieving to see someone from home and the lovely Ash,Jim's girlfriend who is coincidently from Wollongong too.
We decided we'd brave the public transport and go on the cheap so we jumped on a train then a tram where I made a little friend (typical old Turkish man) whose foot I ran over with my suitcase and proceeded tell me his nephew was from Australia and called someone to ask where exactly he was from,Frank from Melbourne apparently ..I said if I ever meet him I'll say hi haha.
The men in turkey are very umm I'd like to say gentleman-like and helpful although according to a sign in my hostel girls must be aware of the men as they are Casanovas and will take your money. As we were walking to our hostel the amount of people, mostly guys stopped us to ask if we needed help and loved saying Aussie aussie Aussie when they discovered we were from australia.
Finally made it to the hostel where we met Kate and Lance a couple from Australia who were heading home the next day after living in London for 2/3 years,we all went out for dinner after being stopped by every restaurant owner to try and convince us to eat with then we settled on a restaurant/cafe with three levels and went right to the top which was an outdoor roof top over looking the water with the sexiest waiter "fabio" haha hopefully the sarcasm in my voice was noted,we managed to somehow convince them to give us 25 Lyra back off our dinner,Lance was an excellent bargainer.
Next stop shisha! With a spare $25 Lyra we treated ourselves to a "special"flavor (cause that's all the guy would tell us it was) with wine in the bottom rather then water,I managed to unwantingly and unwilling pick up a turkish boyfriend because I was the only single one,who was entertaining us and attending to our Sheesha,he was insisting we go clubbing with him later, haha no chance!I suggested id return the next night knowing full well I'll be enjoying myself elsewhere in a 4 star hotel.
Onto our second Sheesha lemon flavor mmm!The boys got flaming absinthe which once they had their shot had to inhale the fumes of the flame that had been trapped in a cup,the facial expressions were truly hilarious,by this time it was almost 2 am and I was officially dead,I'd been struggling to stay awake for a while but I was told if I fell asleep if get in appropriate things drawn on my face so I soldiered on till just after 2 we decided it was bed time.
And now I am having a lovely breakfast outside my hostel on the street, tomato, cucumber fresh fresh bread and hardboill egg with apple tea and/or Turkish tea. I may or may not have gotten downright laughed at and had the guy from the hostel serving us breakfast be truly dissapointed in me for bringing Vegemite to the table, but if Jims allowed to bring his jar of peanut butter to the table I'm entitled to my Vegemite!
Check out is in 45 mins so we are going to head to our next hotel where we start our tour at 6pm tonight, hopefully we can dump our bags and walk around,Ash and I wanted to go to the grand bazaar so we might try and do that.
That's all from me for now
Over and out xx
