Today was a pretty cool day in my eyes as I was in three different countries and two different continents in one day.
So I woke up in portugal for breakfast, went back into Spain for lunch then caught a ferry to morocco for dinner. How many people can claim to that??
We got up early to leave Lagos so we could get to tarifa. We got on the bus and discovered Adam(guy from two nights before who got really drunk) hadn't come home from the night before and no one could get in contact with him. We ended up just having to leave, his mate left his suitcase behind and sent a him a Facebook message to get in contact with our your guide.
We traveled on the bus until we got to a Spanish town called Tarifa which had the ferry to catch to Morocco. After we dropped our bags off at the hostel we all gathered outside and walked down to the ferry which we had to pass through customs before we could get on the boat. I was glad I'd bought my cardigan as it was ridiculously windy and cold between the building and the ferry.
It took about 45 mins to an hour to get there, and when we stepped off the boat we were definitely not in Spain anymore. People were quite obviously poorer, looked different, wore different clothes and were hustling and busling past us.
We walked down to where our bus and Moroccan tour guideways waiting for us and we jumped on. We drove to where there was a whole bunch of camels we could ride and take photos for 1 euro.
It was so cute because there were baby camels there too that I got to pat.
One of the girls I was friends with on the tour and I decided to go on together,it was so funny when they stand up you feel like you are going to fall off we trotted around and managed to make it and back get off with out the camel spitting on us.
We got back on the bus and headed towards the medina which is the central local market place. Turkey had a similar thing but when I was in amongst it I mentally thanked myself for covering up and wearing a maxi dress because we were like fish out of water. The only obvious white people and we were walking through a local market place that was full of people. We walked to a building that was a natural pharmacy and went inside. We sat around and listened to this old Moroccan doctor or pharmacist explain about all the products they sold. We got showed and sampled products like perfumes, rose hip cream,Moroccan hair oil, cream for skin conditions, spices, natural medicines to help you sleep better and ones to help with respiratory problems.
I bought a few things especially the Morrocan hair oil because it's like 30 bucks a bottle at home and I could get 3 for 20 here,so mostly the girls of the tour had a bit of a shipping spree, then we moved on to head to dinner.
The hagglers were into us straight away trying to get us to buy their s*** and followed us for ages. On the way to dinner we stopped at a silver jewelers where I got my Morrocan charm which was the hand of Fatima.
We arrived at this authentic Morrocan restaurant with a little Morrocan band playing and we took our seats for dinner. We were served a three course meal with soup, cous cous and a crunchie sweet pastry for dessert.
We were all pretty tired after dinner so luckily that was the end of our trip to Morocco and we left the restaurant and made our way to the ferry.
We got off the ferry and headed back to the hostel where I was so happy to crawl into bed.
Over and out xx
