Woke up to a very cold morning in Madrid I wasn't prepared when I stepped out in my tee and shorts. The meeting point for my next tour (busabout Iberian adventure) was at the hostel I was staying at so I didn't have to travel far to get on the bus.
Everyone jumped on and our tour guide introduced herself (Isobel) as the bus left for Cordoba. Izzy was from New Zealand but her grandmother was originally from Spain. She gave us some history of Spain in the regions we'd we visiting. Christopher Columbus who everyone knows as an explorer left Spain in a hope to find India but instead found south America and for a long time it was thought to be india, this why native American Indians are called Indians. After he died however it was realised it wasn't in fact India. Fernandez and Isabella a prince and princess in Granada where we'd be going last tried to convert everyone to Catholicism which is what started the Spanish inquisition in which at least one million people died. One of their children was actually the first wife of Henry the 8th for a bit of a tid bit fact.
After our history lesson we had to get up and introduce ourselves. Lol she made it interesting with having to answer questions like
-what would you do with a million dollars
-first kiss
- dream job
Got some funny stories out of those and was a great ice breaker.
We finally arrived at our first stop which was a town called Cordoba. It was a small town with a big roman built bridge at its entrance. It was just a quick stop to have a look around, there weren't too many people around and was very quiet. We went to get food at a place izzy had recommended called 101 tapas and as the name suggested it had 101 tapas to choose from. It was my first experience in Spain of tapas so I was quite excited. I chose a tapas portion of omlette and potatoes with a yummy sauce on it.
After lunch we had a browse in the shops then headed back to where we had to meet as it was time to go.
Tonight we were stating Seville, nicknamed the "frying pan of Spain" due to its hot temps with it reaching 50 degrees a week or two before I'd been there :|
Once we got to our hostel which was pretty nice we were all taken on a walking tour with a Spanish tour guide. We first visited a church which had originally been a mosque but was taken over by the Catholics and was incorporated into a catholic church. This is where Christopher Columbus' remains were buried. There was a wedding about to begin as we were waking past the church. Everyone one looked so smart and the wen really dressed up I loved looking at all their dresses and hairstyles.
We saw a few more areas of Seville including their maze like streets much like the ones in Naxos Greece to protect themselves from enemies.
Once back at the hostel and everyone showed and was ready we headed to the hostels rooftop which has a bar and a pool we had a few drinks before heading to another tapas bar for dinner. I wasn't feeling all that well and felt the flu coming on so I didn't stay out after dinner and headed to bed to rest up.
Over and out xx
