Today we sailed into the stunning island of Santorini. Santorini is topographically very interesting as where we docked there wasn't much around us but rather up above us,600 steps up to be exact. You could get up 1 of 3 ways, walk the 600 stairs, take a donkey up or the cable car. Ash Jim and I walked which I immediately regretted about 10 stairs along with the heat and incline we experienced greece's version of running with the donkeys. The donkeys were taking people up the same stairs we were waking on but they were also being herded down the same stairs we were walking and there were heaps of them and they'd all all follow each other and just about trample us even when were pressed to the wall.
Eventually we made it to the top and checked out the view while we waited for everyone else.
Today we were going to hire quad bikes to get around the island which I was really keen for. Our tour guide circled the places on where she recommended and off we went. Definitely got a bit lost to begin with but eventually we made it to one of the recommended beaches after a swim and a sunbake we navigated to red beach. Red beach as the name suggests was red or id say a browny purple but anyway,It was a nice little cove and a strange sight to see red sand. Briefly stopped in town for gyros and to send a postcard to Oma then headed to the other end of Santorini to watch the sunset. We made our way through Oia to a stone viewing area and grabbed ourselves best seat in the house to watch the sunset.
So many people turned up to watch the sunset they were even spread down the mountainside between the houses and shops. The sunset was beautiful and everyone clapped when it went down. We made our way back to the quads and went to go drop them off,it was awesome riding around Santorini at dusk.
I walked on those stairs for the second time that day even though it was downhill I'm still counting it so I was up to 1,200 stairs.
Got back to the boat quickly got ready had a few predrinks then we caught the cable car to the top and met the rest of our group at a club called town club.
Had a few drinks out the back before hitting the dfloor and the cage the night club had. Ash and I also got cohersed to get up on the bar and dance which we scored a free shot for doing yay!
When we were all feeling quite inebriated we grabbed a gyros feed which was the best one so far and started the trek home down the dreaded stairs.
My thong had also snapped in the club so once again I was down a shoe and walking home down 600 stairs covered in donkey poo in pretty much the dark wasnt ideal, luckily ash brought Jim's head light so I borrowed that and some how managed to get down the bottom with out falling over.
Ios was next on the list so bed time it was to rest up for the party island of Greece.
Over and out xx
