Hello everyone. At the moment we are in Brisbane, half way up the East Coast of Australia, and the weather reflects that! When it's cloudy it's bearable, but the second the sun comes through you can feel it burning your skin, and this is the equivalent of early October! It's only going to continue to get hotter the further north we get. Even at night, in the dark it is still shorts and t-shirt weather. Brisbane is actually a really nice city, apparently it won Most Livable City in Australia, and it has amazing shops, as I found out today! So cheap as well, got 2 dresses and a top for $21 (about 8pounds), have nowhere to put it though.
If we were to come to Brisbane again we would NOT stay in the hostel we are in! It's called Tin Billys, and it all looked great when we arrived, reasonable price as well. Our room is fine, a 4-bed all girls dorm with ensuite. But the kitchen is terrible. For the 200 backpackers staying there there is about 3 bowls, maybe 15 plates, no cups, the cold water runs warm, and people have to wash up plastic cultery because there is very little of the metal stuff. So me and Becky have decided not to go near it these few days, except to get my milk for my cereal. Also the TV doesn't get channel 10 for Neighbours!!! I know!! And today, when the sun woke us up early because the blinds have broken, we found we are covered in bites. I think I counted at least 18 on me. Mainly on my legs but I just went back into the room then and now they're appearing on my arms and shoulder. So the carpet has fleas, great. Now I know what it feels like to be Katie, in fact we need her here to detract all the fleas from us.
Anyway, I'll stop talking about all the horrible things now. Yesterday was Becky's birthday so we decided to go to Australia Zoo, which is Steve Irwins zoo. I'm trying to upload the pictures now but this computer's being gay, but we got some really good ones. There were loads of shows, them feeding and swimming with 15ft crocodiles, and playing with the really cute tigers, actually sitting on their backs and wrestling them for the rubber toy. I'm so surprised they got that close to those animals, the crocodiles were actual wild ones that Steve Irwin himself had captured and rescued in the zoo. There were cheatahs walking around on leads with the staff treating them like dogs. And we saw a wombat on a lead, and people came around with koalas that we could also stroke - they're so soft! Also there's a kangaroo area that you can just wander up to them and stroke them, they're surprisingly soft too!
Steve I also caught all the snakes, and there were the 8 most venomous ones in the world! Who in their right mind would do that! He also personally picked all the staff, so they were really entertaining and proffesional.
It was really sad being there knowing he's dead. There was a big memorial stand that becky and I didn't want to finish reading because it was too sad. Had a really great day though.
In the evening we walked to the Pig'n'whistle - a posh pub and had a meal. I gave Becky all the cards (minus Sam's and Auntie's) which she had no idea about! I kept telling her I had a surprise for her and she was dying to know, but she didn't have a clue. Then we came back and went on the internet.
Don't really think i have too many more stories to tell for the moment. So I'm going to try to upload these stupid pictures!
