Hello all.
At the moment we are in Melbourne, arriving here from Auckland the other day. My staying up all night went ok, until I got on the airplane and tried to sleep, quite hard when the business man behind me was acting like a child and kicking my seat!!! I was sooo tired by about 9am. But anyway we got the coach ok to our hostel, which is really really nice! It's a Base in St Kilda (apparently the prostitute area according to some Napier locals). Everywhere is so clean and it doesn't smell of pee! We're staying in an all girls dorm in the Sanctuary, which is an all girls floor and we get shampoo and towels etc. And the girls in our room are very considerate and don't turn the lights on at 4am.
The day we got here we just walked around St Kilda, which is a little suburb of Melbourne, it's the studenty, backpackers place. We walked along the seafront and although it was clear skies and only about 1pm the wind was bitterly cold and I had to walk back because I was so cold. That day was probably about 23C.
The next day we decided to stroll to the Botanical Gardens which are supposed to be the best in Australia, and some even reckon the world. The stroll turned out to be about 1hr and a half at least each way. The people are very friendly around here when you're standing with a map looking lost! We walked past all the big office buildings with all the posh business people, I felt very out of place in my backpackers clothes. The park was really nice. We just sunbathed for a bit and had a walk around. It felt a LOT hotter yesterday because it was about 28C and again perfect sunshine all day. We just walked around the town in the evening. In St Kilda they have the most amazing cake shops. Literally shops that sell nothing else. And they're so tempting when you walk past the window, i'll try to take some pictures. There's at least 5 along this street and they sell every type of home made cakes imaginable.
Today in St Kilda we woke up about 8am. The kitchen's really cool here, because people fly out from Melbourne they leave their food here for people to help themselves to, so we can pretty much eat every meal for free, it's nice stuff aswell. We decided to explore the city centre today so we got a tram to the centre, had a stroll around, did some shopping - they have some really nice posh department stores here. There's only really one main street of shops but it's good enough. Their tram system is really efficient, and we risked not buying tickets and no-one came round to check so that was lucky, we had our speaches and innocent faces prepared. It was SOOOOO hot! It was at least 33C apparently and sooooooooooooo humid. If you came out of an airconditioned shop and onto the street it felt like walking into a mixture of a sauna and a steam room, I really couldn't bear it and I like the heat usually. It's wierd because this is the most southerly point of Australia and it's the equivalent of their mid-September. I''m glad we're getting further north nearing their winter time!
Tommorow we head off to Ramsey Street to have a look around the Neighbours set. We've been watching it religiously for the last week, just so we're up to date when we visit. And we finish the tour nicely before Neighbours starts on TV, ok now we're just obsessed! And for anyone else that watches it, Boyd has just dumped Janee, Skys baby has lukaemia and Stingray might die tommoroe. And Toadie is about 5ft5 in real life. I KNOW!
Ok I better go now. I'll be sure to write if I meet any of the cast!
