Wow,after half an hour I've finally managed to make this internet work!!
Yep, I'm sure you've guessed where we are, SYDNEY! It is a really really nice city. I didn't expect to like it that much because I prefer the countryside but I have to say I have been very impressed in these last 24hours. Ok, there was just a massive smash behind me and I think the computer screen just fell on the floor, that made me jump! Oh well. Ok back to the blog. I'm copying this out of my journal and it is very long, so if you need the toilet go now, and get yourself a drink......
These last few days since Sydney I've really enjoyed. We were on the bus for the first time in Australia and I like it. So we've met some nice people and have been travelling around.
We left Melbourne at about 6.30am (more like 7.20!!!!cos it was late). Our driver was called Andy and he is exactly like Steve Irwin was. Then we drove to the National Park Wilson's Promentory. It's a really big park and covers the most southern point of mainland Oz,although to get there you hade to drive for another few hours and hike for 3 days, so we didnt try that. We stopped the bus and went kangaroo spotting. There were so many around and didn't seem phased by us at all. We managed to get really close. There was no-one else around at all except for our group and we were hours from civilisation. I'm starting to realise just how vast Australia is. We also saw a wombat at that spot. They're really funny, we were watching it run, it was very slow and like a giant guinea pig. Also saw emus from a distance.
After that stop we drove down to Pillar Point and Squeeky Beach. It turned out to be a really nice day so i got some lush pictures, but sadly I can't upload them because of these rubbish computers. The sand on squeeky beach was silicone so it made a squeeking noise when you walked on it, like new shoes. It was really quiet on it because theres only one camp site there, the next one was a couple of hours away.
That night we stayed in Foster. A small, touristy in the summer, town. We had little caravans for 8 of us. That night we had a pool competition with the other bus that was headed south. Everyone of our teams won. Even me and my partener! Only really because the others potted the black, we would've lost otherwise. But we won the money so Andy bought us some sweets the next day. We've met this really nice girl called Izzy who's from Bath, about to go to Oxford to study medicine. She's staying with us a lot of the way round which is nice. And we've met these four girls who are really nice too. Because there was only 23 people on our bus (20girls, 4boys) all the others were very strange. Nice though.
Ok can't actually remember what we did the next day, but that night we stayed in a Buddist Retreat in the middle of the Bush. It was run by monks. The food we had was very tasty, and healthy - rice with vegetables and peaches and starch for dessert. Then after dinner we learnt the art of meditation. But before that I had my first encounter with a poisonous spider. Ok, so I was walking past Naomi and Natalies room when they told me they'd found a massive spider in their room, so I went in to check it out. It was pretty big, but being the fierceless person that I am I decided to get the box for GHDs and catch it, it was pretty fast but I managed to trap it, the only problem was the box had a whole in the top aswell. So I didn't pick up the box cos I wasn't sure if it was poisonous or not. One girl got Andy and he said it was a wolfspider, so I'm very glad I didn't touch it. Once he'd said that I stayed on the other side of the room! The bedrooms were actually really nice- very spacious and the beds were soooo comfy, so at 6.30am I didnt want to get out of them. After meditating everyone went to bed because they were so sleepy. The monks were so trusting, the shop was a help yourself and write down what you get and put the money in the pot, and the internet was a 'put the money in the pot' too.
Driving away from the retreat we drove through the snowy mountains, which was quite high up. We had to rescue two men whos van had tipped over at midnight the night before and hadn't seen anyone until us the next day at 9am (it was a VERY deserted road, only saw about 3 cars in 5hours). He smelled when he got on the coach though. In Jindabyne I did water skiing! It was really fun, only for 15mins but I managed to stand up and do all the wake crossing and stuff. Fell flat on my face soo many times though! Hit the water quite fast and swallowed litres of the water (luckily not salty) and it all went up my nose.I've decided when I get loads of money I want to buy a boat and water skis.
After that point we drove up to the highest point you can drive to in Oz. It was the biggest ski resort in Australia, even though it was really small, and I was very unimpressed by their black runs. Couldn't really see much though as the alpine weather had set in and it was windy and very cloudy. So we came down and headed to our nice accomadation. It had lake views, 8 bed dorms, Tv(which we watched Neighbours in London), fridge, sofa, ensuite -pure luxury! Had a nice chicken schnitzel buffet meal and played some more pool.
The next day was another 6.30am start. Our first stop was Canberra. I can't believe it is the capital city of Australia when it only has 310,000 people! It feels a very fake town, everything's perfectly in line and constructed, it was purpose built. We browsed the parliament buildings and saw the polititians, very boring. Then it was off to the War Museum. It's a really good educational place- very depressing but by this time it was hot so many people sat outside.
After that we had a long drive to Sydney. Last night we went for a meal at the Gaff with our driver Andy. It was the last time we would all be out together because everyone's staying in Sydney for differnt amounts of time. Had a nice burger then went downstairs to the club. It was soooo hot down there so there were some unflattering pics, yep I deleted them. Becky went home early and the club cleared about 2am so me and Izzy left then. The others apparently came home at 5.30am.
Today we wandered around Sydney, after our nice free breakfast of pancakes!! Very tasty. There are some really nice shops here! IF only I had money... And saw the Sydney Bridge and Opera House, which really are as fantastic as they look, I couldn't believe I was standing next to them! It was such a nice day so I got some really good pictures.
It is officially 3days until Becky and I meet Boyd and Elle from Neighbours, there's one other caracter but that's a surprise! We're so excited! Becky bought a new dress today for Boyd, although it was only $5 (2pounds).
Tommorrow we're off to Bondi Beach, and hopefully I'll upload the photos.
Adios
