Yep, this person in the picture is me, how did you guess? At the moment we're in the surfing touristy town of Byron Bay, filled with backpackers from everywhere. It's a really nice place- miles of unspoilt beaches and a cute little town with loads of Billabong, Roxy, Supre, and loads more good shops. It's been so hot the last two days, I'm talking nearly 30s and perfect cloudless skyes. However I guess I was boasting too much because today the clouds have rolled in and it's been looking as though it's going to rain any minute. The sun did come out for a second, and it's still really hot (although a little humid). But my tan's come along nicely since the last few days. Becky however is a different story. This morning when Becky was in the pharmacy looking at vitamins, the lady told her she looked a bit pale and asked if she was anaemic - hahahaha. Although she's looking pretty brown, and the lady was much paler than her. I'm just going to keep on teasing her about it.
Ok, so since I last wrote, i think was in Sydney.........
Monday 26th March - We had our beloved pancakes for the last time, then we prepared ourselves for a full day of sightseeing and wandering. However, when we arrived back in our room I, for some reason, noticed our trainers were missing. After much panic turned out the cleaner had thrown them out thinking they were rubbish, just because they were tied up in a plastic bag. Any normal person would've picked them up, thought they were really heavy, actually seen the trainers inside and put them back down! So we went to reception and she said the bins had been emptied already. She recompensated us with $100 each to buy a new pair (about 40pounds). I was very mad though because mine were brand new diesel ones! So we went and bought ourselves some more, didn't have much choice at $100 but got some ok ones. After that we just did some chores. We had to go to STA travel to collect our tickets for Brisbane Zoo for Becky's birthday. Then we walked over the Harbour Bridge (not a good idea in a skirt) - some amazing views though. Walked round the Opera House and up and down George Street again. I liked Sydney, the weather was a lot colder that day than it had been - more autumnish, although we were still in shorts and a t-shirt.
Tuesday 27th march - We had to be up at 5.40am to leave for Surf Camp. Our coach driver was sooo retarded. He was like one of those hillbillys you find in the outback that are serial killers. They had to use a 50seater coach instead of a 24seater because it is so busy at the moment. So he wasn't an actualy Oz driver, just a normal driver who was really strange. It was such a long way, didn't arrive at surf camp until 4pm. And the mental bus driver (Drover) made it so cold on the bus that half of us got our sleeping bags out, i was stuck with only my towel and I was shivering. he claimed it was the warmest it would go - whatever! The Surfer guys at surf camp were typical 'surfer dudes', very friendly. We got on the beach at 4.45pm and they taught us a few things before we got in the water. Surfing is really fun! The water was nice and warm, despite it getting dark and raining. And I managed to stand up a bit - it's actually a lot harder than it looks! Becky came out of the water after 20mins, don't think she enjoyed it. For dinner that night they cooked us burritos - they are sooo good. Then after that we just chilled for a bit, talking to the people on our bus and with the surfer guys. Then most people went down to the beach, except Becky went to bed early. I went to watch Old School with a few other people. Our caravans were tiny, despite there being 11 of us in it.
Wednesday 28th march - The surfer guys woke us up at 6.30am for breakfast and we left for Byron Bay at 8am with retarded man. We arrived here at Byron. It's not a compulsory stop with Oz Experience but I'm not sure why, I'm really glad we did stop here. Our hostel is quite nice, 5 in our room, not that clean but ok. It's got a pool and free Bodyboard hire and only $15 for a surfboard.
Thursday 29th march - It was great to have a lie in, only till 9.30am though , we both woke early. We ate breakfast outside by the pool, it was a cloudless hot day. Then just chilled out on the beach all day again. Our hostel is the only one in Byron Bay to be 'on' the beach. At about 4.15pm I was the only one for about 100metres on the beach, it's just so massive that it's desserted.
Friday 30th march - So decided i'd try to teach myself to surf today since it was cloudy, so I hired a surfboard. Not the best idea. the waves were the biggest I have ever seen. Where the waves broke I could still stand - up to my chest, and when they broke, no exaggeration, they were at least 12foot. I just couldn't do it, and my board was slightly broken, which of course was the only reason. But I gave up after 1hour. i was the only girl out there and all the others looked like pro-surfers so I stopped embarrasing myself and went to swap my board for a body board - which was so much more fun! The waves were still massive though. I lost my shorts many times and stupidly kept forgetting to breathe, so when I got held under by the massive crashing wave I ended up swallowing a lot of very salty water! Was great fun though, very tiring, but there's something addictive about trying to stay up with massive powerful waves. In the meantime Becky wandered around the town, it's been too cloudy to sunbathe.
