A cool, wet, rainy day - physically, this suits me better than yesterday's 24 degrees, but I would rather have seen blue skies for my last look at Knysna.
We had planned a scenic drive, and a walk, on the way to George; instead, after trying a dirt road, and find it ... well, very dirty ... we stayed on the N2. Why George? Because we are now staying with some of Peter's old friends, Norma and Anthony Auty. Norma was a teacher, and Anthony in charge of surveying and assay at Impala platinum mine; so their friendship goes back a long way. Norma taught Peter's Katie when she was 4!
Pic shows some of the clocks that Anthony makes from rare indigenous woods, harvested responsibly. That on the top left uses fossilised sharks' teeth, recovered from Florida after Hurricane Charlie in 2004. Norma and Anthony were on holiday there and experienced the whole thing. It is lovely to be made so warmly welcome by them.
