Hello there!
It's been a pretty busy day so far. Unfortunately we were both up before 7am and were out the door and on the underground by about 8am. Today was another big sightseeing day with us hitting up the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral, a vegetarian restaurant in the bottom of a Church, the Millennium Bridge (or Harry Potter Bridge as Mich calls it) and we stood outside the Tate Modern and Shakespear's Globe. But first things first.
Something unheard of happened this morning dear reader. We had to wait for a train to Tower Hill for 10 minutes this morning! What an absolute disgrace! But we eventually got there in the end and had a really great time in the Tower of London. First it was to a couple of the towers within the walls and reading up on all the people who had been locked up there. Many of the pepople had carved their names or crests into the stone walls. Amzing to stand there an imagine it. Apparently, if you were high up in the social scale, it was normal for you to have servants and well fitted rooms with good food and family visitors during your stay at the Tower. If you had to go to jail, it would be there right? We also saw the lawn where the scaffolds were made and where Anne Boleyn was beheaded. Prett creepy right there. Then it was on to see the Crown Jewels! So much sparkle, so little time. Mich and I went past the crowns on the little conveyer belt a couple of times just to look at the jewels a bit more. Yummy.
We also walked across the Tower Bridge and this is great if you're not wearing a short skirt on a windy day. Which I was. Oh the hilarity folks. I think more than one person got a flash of my knickers today. If you did, I am deeply sorry. Then just a short walk (ahem!) and a bus ride to St Pauls. Didn't go in because by that time the tour groups on the coaches had arrived and had made camp on the steps. But just to be standing underneath that amazing arch was enough.
Then it was lunch in a restaurant that had it's kitchen and main dining area underneath a Church surrounded by 16th century stone walls. A bit surreal to eat a sandwich when you expect the Pope to come walking in and order a Schwepps Bitter Lemon.
A walk across the Harry Potter Bridge we came to the Globe. I had to sit down for a little bit because I had been looking forward to seeing it (even though it's not the origional). There was a performance going on inside and unfortunately we couldn't get tickets for A Midsumer Nights Dream for the next quater of a century so we walked away sad and dissapointed. But not to worry! A short (ahem!) ride on the swealtering Underground and we were back home safe and sound.
Until next time you gorgeous people.
