So comes to a close our second day in good-old London town.
After we left the computers yesterday Mich and I decided to have a little nap and then get up for dinner and have an early night. Well, it turned into an early afternoon. By 5pm we were asleep in the dorm and didn't wake up until 5am the next morning. Very strange sleeping patterns we've got going here. So the plan tonight is to stay up until about 7pm and then go to sleep (a girl can dream right?)
Today was the big sightseeing day. There was Big Ben, Parliment, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guard, Westminster Abbey and the London Eye.
Since we had woken up early we were outside parliment by 8:30am so there were very few other tourists around to get in the way of our photography. A few snaps later were went in search of No. 10 Downing Street. We never did find it but we weren't looking too hard. Then it was onwards to Trafalgar Square. Not much to report. Pretty good water features though.
We then decided to head off to Buckingham Palace for the changing of the guard. We went through some gates off the main road from Trafalgar Square and found ourselves walking through the Horse Guards Parade. We weren't quite sure if we were allowed to walk through there and the guy with the very shiny sword didn't make us feel any easier. But we walked through the archway and found ourselves smack-bang in the middle of 19th century London. A huge, ornate building with the smell of horse hanging on the air.
We then walked through St James's Park and had a relax on a bench. After a while we noticed an elderly man feeding squirrels (!!!!) on a nearby bench. Mich had a few happy minutes taking photos of the hyped-up squirrels.
Buckingham Palace was next: 'Hello Lizzy!' Waiting with the expectant crowd for the changing of the guard only heightened the excitement of seeing such a grand tradition. Sitting in one of the few spots of shade Mich noticed a very cute policeman and wanted a photo. I had noticed a few people going up to the policemen standing around and asking for phoots with them and I suggested this to Mich but embarrasment was the emotion of the day. So I took a 'stalker' photo for the memory books.
Walking to Westminster Abbey is a not worth it unless you are prepared to pay £12 (students) to go in. What does it say about us that we are willing to part with many pounds to get into Madame Tussauds and not pay to see a historic landmark like Westminster. Nothing good. :p
We then lined up to see the London Eye, which included a 4D short movie about the London Eye. Then we lined up with hundreds of other people to get onto the London Eye. A hour and two sunburnt shoulders later we were high in the sky above London. Seeing the great expanse of London and the views was worth the hour wait.
Then it was to the Tube (LOVE THE TUBE), Tescos and here you find me. Hopefully Mich and I will be able to stay up to a decent hour, eat dinner and go to sleep and not wake up before the sun has risen. Keep your fingers crossed for us dear reader.
Until next time.
