Blog week 16
Hi everyone! Sorry it's been so long since our last blog, we simply haven't had chance
to get back to mainland to update. And as mentioned in the last blog the internet is really slow over here on the island.
So, what's happened since the last blog? Well, we've worked a lot of hours
as it's been so busy at work over the last few weeks. The split shifts are starting to get on everyone's nerves now but we're told they won't be running for too much longer. We have also decided to
move on from Rottnest Island, as we aren't getting much sight-seeing or surfing done over here. We finish work here on the 25th and leave the island on the 26th, which also
happens to be "Australia Day", a huge national celebration. We plan to visit the Swan River foreshore with Fish to watch the fireworks and party with some of her friends.
Hopefully we'll be able to sell Kevin in the next couple of weeks and pick up a new
car/van then travel down to Esperance to work for a few more weeks. We're going to go via Margaret River so we can get some more surfing done on the way. We're really looking forward to seeing some
new sights.
Yet more staff have finished here since our last blog. Tamsin and Fish have both left
now and Dani and Blondie are finishing on Sunday. We have had a whole heap of new staff start though; a couple of Brazilian guys, Leo and Mau, and two Scottish girls, Claire and Lyndsey are amongst
them.
It's been a pretty uneventful week or so really. We've been working
loads of hours and because of the heat we have been worn out the rest of the time and too tired to do anything. James and I played mini golf again the other day though in my break on split shift and
we have had fun making some videos on my computer. We went jetty jumping on Monday too as part of Fish's farewell. She jumped in in her uniform, it was a good laugh. James has managed to go surfing
on Rottnest for the first time this week. He got up at 5.30am on Tuesday and went down to Strickland Bay with Okie and Mau, for a surf before they started work at 8. They all really enjoyed it, James
said they're the best waves he'd seen since the last good session at Hells Mouth.
I am cutting my hours at work down to only 4 days a week for the last 2 weeks I'm here
because I really want to see more of the island and have been getting pretty down. Glad to have 2 days off now. We have so much planned. We're going to go up to Kalamunda later to see Irene and stay
over then tomorrow we are going to go to Scarborough to meet up with Fish and go out for Thai for lunch then in the evening we're going on the Twilight cruise mum and Paul bought for us for
Christmas. I'm really looking forward to it. We're going to get a bottle of bubbly to take with us, mmm!
We're really looking forward to what the near future holds for us, we might be looking
at some cars today too. Hope everyone's well back home, we're missing you all. Speak to you soon, love Laura and James xXx
