We woke this morning to the sound of a Thai man playing the guitar, and after a lovely pancake breakfast we set off over the lake to another island. We arrived in Surat Thani about 6am and walked to a little cafe nearby for breakfast. We then took a 2 hour songthaew ride to the boat stop, where we transferred onto a little wooden motor boat to cross the most idyllic lake to our rafthouses. Today was a free day before we boarded another sleeper train for Surat Thani in the evening, so we had a lazy morning shopping and getting Liv's hair braided! We had a really nice relaxed morning, spoiled a little by Hannah having her shopping bag stolen as we tried on some shorts. The train was at 4.30pm and our seats were at the very far end of the longest train so far, miles away from the club cart so we went to sleep early to get away from all the mosquitoes ...

An early start this morning as we had to jump off the train at 5am a little before Bangkok, as we were making our way to the River Kwai. We all piled into minibuses and drove for 2-3 hours to Kanchanaburi. On the way we stopped off at a floating market, which was interesting to see- lots of floating boats selling their goods and as usual absolutely packed! We woke early this morning to leave with some other group members on a Thai cookery course. We met our teacher in a songthaew and were firstly taken to a local market, where he showed us the different ingredients we would be using throughout the morning.
