Hannah and Liv's Travel Update
We woke early this morning to leave with some other group members on a Thai cookery course. We met our teacher in a songthaew and were firstly taken to a local market, where he showed us the different ingredients we would be using throughout the morning. These included coconut milk, butter and cream, fresh lemongrass, ginger basil, fresh fish, and various chilli and fish pastes. We then had a few minutes to walk around the market while he bought our ingredients, then we set off through the countryside to the most gorgeous little outdoor kitchen. We had our own little workstations with pans, woks, coconut spoons and gas hob. We prepared by dressing in aprons and taking off our shoes, before cracking on with the cooking! We cooked some amazing traditional Thai dishes including stir-fried vegetables, tum yum soup, chicken panang curry, pad tai noodles with omelette and to finish deep fried banana spring rolls. It was so much fun cooking and sampling our dishes as we went along, and we saved a couple of the big dishes until afterwards when we ate them with rice for our lunch- then spent the whole day absolutely stuffed! We cooked the stir fry in the woks and made massive flames- Hannah's fire jumped out at her so had a singed fringe and eyebrow! We were given brilliant recipe booklets on our way home so we can keep cooking everything we learnt.
When we got back to the hotel we only had a couple of hours before leaving for the train station to make our way back to Bangkok.
