Hannah and Liv's Travel Update
An early start this morning as we had to jump off the train at 5am a little before Bangkok, as we were making our way to the River Kwai. We all piled into minibuses and drove for 2-3 hours to Kanchanaburi. On the way we stopped off at a floating market, which was interesting to see- lots of floating boats selling their goods and as usual absolutely packed! We shopped for a few souvenirs, but it was just great fun to wander around the stalls taking in the bustling atmosphere and bright colours. From there we continued to Kanchanaburi, where we visited a lovely museum all about the reasons behind and the construction of the famous bridge between Thailand and Burma by the WWII prisoners of war. It was just nextdoor to the graveyard of some of the many men who died during the construction. It was a moving place and a really interestingly presented museum.
We then stopped for a lovely buffet Thai lunch, before driving 5 minutes to the bridge itself. A little train went back and forth over the bridge, though you could walk along and stop in the little wooden balconies either side of the track. It was a little scary walking along the track as there was very little to stop you falling down into the river on either side and there were gaps all along the track. It was a lovely view out across the river, and a lovely market on one side, where we were forced to stop for an ice cream to cool us down! It was then a long minibus ride back to the hotel in Bangkok, we went straight back out to Kao San road for a bit more shopping, then came back to get ready for a big night out! We had a brilliant night again socialising in the bars and dancing the night away!
