Ni Hao! It was a beautiful day today. The sun was out and we could see the city. Yesterday, was the most hazy day on record in Beijing. We just got back from dinner at Pizza Hut. It's nothing like Pizza Hut in the states. It reminded us a lot of Olive Garden. We wanted to make sure that they put tomato sauce on our pizza, but the waitress didn't quite understand and after she delivered our pizza, she brought us two cups of ketchup. :) Today we spent the day in the Hutong's of Beijing, which are the old alleyways of the city. It was extremely interesting. We visited the park where the new Karate Kid fight scene was filmed. All of the locals were there exercising, playing table tennis and playing Hacki Sack(?) with a badmitton birdie. They let me play table tennis. They were very nice and didn't hit the ball too hard. Next, we rode a rickshaw that was pedaled by a local man. The guy who had to pull me and my dad, had to get off the bike and pull us up the hill; We came in last. Then, we went to an ancient drum tower from the Ming Dynasty. There, we enjoyed a special tea ceremony. The teas were really good. We also visited a museum for the wife of Sun Yat Sin. She was born in Wisconsin, but spent her adult life in China. After the museum, we went to eat at a local's courtyard home. It had 16 rooms and three generations live there. The rooms were very small and barren, but the value of the home is $4,000,000 American. Although they could sell their house and come to America, most don't because their homes have been in the family for generations. Tomorrow, we are going to the Summer Palace where the Emperors went on vacation. After that we're going to see the Olympic Village before we head to the airport for our flight to Xi'an. I forgot to tell you what we did before dinner. We went to the Silk Road Market. It is an indoor market frequented by more foreigners than any other market in the world. It was amazing. Most of the items at the market were designer fakes. I could have bought an "Ipod Classic" for $50 American. It was hilarious.
Well, I'm tired now. Hopefully I can blog tomorrow. Thanks, Tony
