We're back from the Great Wall. It was a lot of fun. It's hard to believe that people could even make this without cranes and cement trucks. It was extremely steep. Unfortunately, it was very foggy, so we could only see about 75-100 yards. We took a lot of pictures. Some of our favorites, are those of the local people. My dad took a really cute picture of a little boy in a derby hat and sweater. We also went to the Ming Tombs and walked a mile through the sacred way, which had stone statues that were placed their to protect the Emperors' tombs. The tombs were from the 1300's to 1400's. One of the 13 tombs was open to the public. Emperors were buried with many artifacts such as jade, gold and pots and pans. I learned that when an Emperor died, the Chinese people often buried their concubine alive with them. When one emperor died, they buried 16 women alive. Wow!. Well, we're off to dinner. My mom and dad are getting an hour and a half massage for $24。 They asked my dad how many women he wanted sent up. He said, "Five." That was funny. Bye for now. Tony

Yvonne Wow! It sound like you are already having an amazing time. Tony, I knew you would put your Mandarin to good use..I'm sure you're an expert negotiator! Neil and I were watching "The Karate Kid" on DVD last night, and I was thinking about all of you as I saw the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. I have to say, I'm glad I wasn't a Chinese woman who was hanging around when the Emperor died! Glad you're mom and dad got the massage. I'm sure it was relaxing after the long flight! Thanks for all your detailed entries on the blog!
